Interpretive Services Program

The Interpretive Services Program

The Interpretive Services program is made possible through a grant from Pacific Source to improve access to culturally and linguistically appropriate health services throughout Coalition Clinics. The grant is dedicated to training both Coalition Clinic staff and volunteers to receive intensive health care interpreter training. Reducing barriers to access needed health services is a joint goal of the Coalition and PacificSource. This program:

  • provides interpretive services to people for specialty referral services
  • recruits and places volunteer interpreters within the Coalition Clinics
  • offers appropriate medical terminology and cultural/linguistic competency trainings
  • offers training through Portland Community College’s Healthcare Interpretive Training Program to clinic staff through a scholarship program

Medical Interpreters Needed

Medical interpreter volunteers make a vital difference in ensuring that our patients are receiving high quality health care services. Many of our clinics rely on volunteers due to financial constraints. These volunteers help providers and patients work together and understand each other’s language, cultural and medical needs. The Coalition offers testing as well as cultural, ethics and linguistic training to committed volunteers.
